Fun With Trees

Tree Collage and Mixed Media

When polled, the favorite assignment of Carol Nelson's workshop was the tree paintings.  I like this the least at the time, so I decided that I wasn't doing it correctly.  I completed the following paintings at the end of June before I went to Cloudcroft New Mexico.  I plan on using tree paintings as lessons for my painting class.  I have eight more in progress, so now I too like the tree paintings, almost as much as the mini abstracts.

New Abstracts

Working With Movement

I have been interested in the female form and dancers over the past several years, and see geishas and dancers in my abstract work, often emphasising them in my paintings.  I have included one of these below.

Princessa, 10 x 10 acrylic and lacquer on board

When Creating the following works for the faculty show my intention was to create the same sort of dancers by working with movement first.  I am pleased with the effort.
Zen Dancer, 18 x 24 Acrylic on Canvas

Wind Dancer Triptych- Painting 1, 15 x 22 Acrylic on Watercolor Board

Wind Dancer Triptych- Painting 2, 15 x 22 Acrylic on Watercolor Board

Mixed Media Experiment

Deep Purple Serenade, Oil - Mixed Media
If you look at a lot of works by artists, the majority of people using mix media paint in acrylic.  There are so many interesting effects that can be achieved using acrylic mediums and through collage materials with acrylic paint.  Oil can be mixed with sand and other things. But as a rule most of the oils I find are oil, period.
